Mission StatementMarshall's Miles is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to help find a cure for Spinal Muscular Atrophy and provide assistance to its victims and their families. Donations will be used to help fund necessary medical equipment and accessibility options to families who have been denied coverage by their health care insurance.A portion of our donations will be directed to Families of SMA to help them continue to fund necessary research so a cure can be found for this devastating disease. We support the efforts of other SMA organizations whenever possible and will work with them in fullfilling requests from families. We pride ourselves on improving the quality of life for people who are affected by SMA. |
What is SMA?Though virtually unknown to the general public, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a relatively common genetic children's disease, as one in 40 are carriers. SMA type I is the leading genetic killer of infants and toddlers. Although the disease robs the child of the ability to sit, walk, swallow and breath, the mind is NOT affected.Of the 200 known genetic diseases, researchers rank the prospects of finding a cure for SMA near the top of the list.
